This will be a scetion where questions about certain topics will
be answered by myself.
The first topic will be hot to create a website.
Topic 1 - Creating your own website
Q1 - Is creating a website
a complex task?
A1 - It can be depending on the amount of effort
and material you wish to put into your website. You can spend
as little time to just make an information page with a few pictures
and a few links which will be quick to do or you can build websites
like this site or my mates site @ Salamander
Corporation, in which has much more content and many more
commands which eventually get easier and easier as you use them.
Other than that its a fairly simple process if you understand
all the commands and the variety of helpful tools that you have
at your disposal.
Q2 - Do i need a specialist program to create
a website?
A2 - No, you dont have to have a specialist
program to create word at all. You can use notepad as the easiest
to create the tags and the code for the site then upload through
an ftp server. There are websites in which you can create your
websites through steps and by choosing your layout etc but this
does not give you the opportunity to create it yourself from scratch
which is more fun. These websites are Geocities
and Tripod.
However if you wish to get a program for Website designing use
then i would recommend either Microsoft Frontpage, Dreamweaver
4, Dreamweaver MX, UltraDev 4, or Opus. These programs do not
come cheap if you purchase them, they range from about £300
- £2000! In my opinion I would choose Dreamweaver MX or
Frontpage if you have Microsoft Office Premium.
Q3 - How do i add content to my website now
that i have a program to make a Website?
A3 - In most programs the easiest tools u can
use are tables and layout cells. tables have a fixed page value
and can only be moved certain spaces apart from its orignal position
but they are more accurate at determining the centres of pages
and the right positions. layout cells are similar but you can
resize them as large and as small as you want like tables but
layout cells can be put anyway on the screen once you have crafted
the location of where it is to be placed. On the placement of
the tables or layout cells you will be able to add text, graphics
and many other formats to that table/cell. Text is the default
format that goes in both but you can add images by importing them
or you can add .fla files and .swf files which are generally based
on flash animations and movie scenes. As you can see you can add
content relatively easily when you know the main tools to do this.
Q4 - URL's?? What the....?
A4 - A Uniform Resource Locator is an internet
address which tells the computer which website to go to. For example,
the URL for this site is http://www.animationhq.tripod.com/home.
Easy.
Q5 - What are tags?
A5 - Tags are a piece of code entered into the
code section in a program to indicate or identify a certain command
relating to that area in the website. If you were to write the
tag <iframe.............></iframe> this would define
the perameters of the floating frame like its height, width, frameborder,
src link (source link) etc. If i were to write <style.........></style>
this would determine that the selected area or cell would have
a certain style to it such as text properties. (note that the
dots are for where the information defing that section is put
in). You will eventually need to understand these a bit more in
order for you to make your own tags for your site.
Q6 - How do i upload these sites when i am ready
to?
A6 - This is a very simple step now that you
have completed the hardest part whether that was hard or not is
in your opinion. You will either need to download an FTP server
from Download.com,
should be something like wpftp95 or so and then upload your site
from there or an easier method is to register with Tripod
or Geocities
and register with an account of your choice and upload your files
through their filemanagers. I personally use Tripod as i am used
to it and its a very simple upload process.
That should be the basic of the web design FAQ and so you have
been told what to do and now you should now. If you would like
any definitions or any enquiries about anything feel free to email
me @ aceypaul2003@hotmail.com
More topics will come in the future, but this has nackered me
all this typing so im taking a break.
